Platinum Healthcare was established in 2005 by Mr Ephie Njogu. His vision was to establish a complete service for people who have been through the forensic psychiatric services, and had reached a point where they could be discharged from health services. At this point, such people need ‘supported living’ – services to assist them to reintegrate fully into the community.
Platinum Healthcare provides a ‘staged’ programme of reintegration comprising of 24-hour residential care homes, individual training flats and small group homes services. Platinum Healthcare has excellent links with the local NHS mental health services and regular referrals are received from these sources. Our success rate in reintegrating referred clients into the local community is 100%.
• To assist each individual in regaining and maintaining self-care skills
• For individuals to develop their social skills, integrate into everyday society and ensure day to day communications with others are acceptable
• For individuals to find employment according to the individuals unique skills and abilities
• For individuals to find a place to live independently ensuring they have the relevant support from family, friends and the relevant professional services
• Through all of the above, to enable the client to be a valued, trusted and respected member of society
We also aim to promote independence by supporting and educating users to gain the skills required managing independent living. We aim to support service users to realise their personal aspirations and abilities in all aspects of their lives.
“Our aim is to provide close supported living for up to six adults reintegrated into the community as they recover from mental health problems.”
The registered residential care home provides rehabilitation for six individuals (male or female) between the ages of 18-65 who have mental health problems and mild learning disabilities.
We provide a complete service including training flats to supporting people moving into permanent accommodation.
St Christopher’s is a large semi detached house set in a quiet road within High Barnet. The home accommodates six residents. Service users are allowed to personalise their bedrooms with their own personal furniture and décor. The home is within a short walking distance to Barnet’s town centre, High Barnet tube station, the local leisure facilities and Barnet General Hospital. There is also a bus stop which runs regularly outside of the home.
The length of time that each individual takes to achieve full independence is dependent upon their individual needs and abilities. Clients at St Christopher’s House have an average length of stay of less than a year.
The group homes are designed for a maximum of three people sharing the lounge, kitchen/dinner with the privacy of their own bedrooms. There is a senior member of staff between 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday. The group homes are aimed for individuals who do not required 24-hour residential care but there is an identified need for less supportive accommodation before moving to the training flats.
Once residents have been assessed as capable of more independent living, they are offered the opportunity to live in one of these flats receiving regular visits from Platinum Healthcare support workers as they develop their independent living skills. The length of time that each individual takes to achieve full independence is dependent upon their individual needs and abilities. Clients staying at the training flats have a variable length of stay, but the majority of clients move on to fully independent living within 2 years.
We provide short-term floating support to people moving into permanent accommodation. The support is designed to support people while familiarising and adapting to the new environment.
The registered house manager at
St Christopher’s house is Jane Ingram. Jane has over 10 years experience in the forensic mental health and learning disability sector and has been running St Christopher’s House since 2006.
All of our staff are highly trained and experienced in supporting people recovering from mental health problems which is reflected by our staffing retention rate together with client move-on to more independent accommodation.
